Our Green TOmato Pickle Story
Green Tomato Pickle is an old concept that stands the test of time. At Taste of TamO’Shanter we grow all our tomatoes on the farm. The seeds are raised in our hot house, then when the time is right they are transferred to our garden. We use only the best practices to grow spray free and chemical free tomatoes. We really believe in having as little waste as possible, so at the end of the season when the days are no longer long enough to ripen them we pick everything and that is how our Green Tomato Pickle came to be.
In America Green Tomatoes are hugely popular here we are a bit more wary of the not red tomato. After doing many farmers markets and chatting to people and letting them try our Green Tomato Pickle there are a new wave of the converted. That is a great thing because we are essentially making a great product with what some would class as a waste product.
Being green you get a lovely tartness that we have balanced with fruits and vinegars to give you a delicious savoury pickle.
If you are not sure what to do with Green Tomato Pickle then lets give you some ideas. My favourite way to have it is with ham and salad but any meat will match well. It goes great in a salad sandwich for a vegetarian or vegan option. A cheese board or Ploughman’s lunch is another option. Don’t forget you can put in toasted sandwiches as well. Really it is only your imagination holding you back, so lets get on board with this, one of my Mums favourite products that I make. I hope you enjoy as much as we do. This little gem needs to get more recognition as a really lovely condiment to add to your collection.
