Our Raspberry Jam story

The History of Raspberries.

Raspberries are thought to have originated in Europe and Northern Asia, there is archaeological evidence dating back to the Paleolithic era. There is also a variety native to North America. It was the Romans in the forth century AD that documented the cultivation of this delicious berry.  King Edward 1 encouraged the cultivation of raspberries in England in the thirteenth century, (can’t blame him for that).

There are now over 200 varieties of Raspberries to pick from, most common are the summer fruiting.  Autumn varieties are also becoming popular with growers to extent their season.

There was a very good reason Native Americans used Raspberries for medicine they are full of goodies.  Antioxidants are high on the list of benefits as well as vitamin C, manganese and fibre. As part of a healthy diet Raspberries can help your immune system, improve your cardiovascular health as well as being an anti-inflammatory.

A fun fact Native American women use the dried leaves to make a tea to give to expectant mums and have been doing so for thousands of years.

Raspberry Jam has been made since ancient times where they would preserve the berries in honey.  In more modern times with the introduction of sugar cane farms the popularity of Raspberry Jam came available to everyone.

Our Raspberry Jam is made from spray free berries this is one fruit I don’t grow here on our farm but my Mum grows them in her garden and I also get a great supply from a lovely farm in Sheffield. (funnily just across the road from my Auntie and Uncles farm). The jam is made in small batches with all the fruit hand picked and checked.

A great way to enjoy a delicious summer berry all year round.
